PACE discusses situation in Ukraine, reconsiders Russian credentials

Strasbourg, 7-11 April 2014

At its Spring session in Strasbourg on 7-11 April the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) will debate a request to reconsider the already ratified credentials of the delegation of the Russian Federation on substantive grounds (under Rule 9.1.a of the Rules of Procedure) and is likely to hold an urgent debate on threats to the functioning of democratic institutions in Ukraine (*).

The Ukrainian Prime Minister Arsenii Yatseniuk will not address the Assembly as  originally foreseen.

Other highlights on the draft agenda include an address by the President of Austria and a decision on granting partner for democracy status to the Kyrgyz Parliament, as well as a report on prostitution, trafficking and modern slavery in Europe.

The Assembly will also discuss the annual activity report by the Commissioner for Human Rights and hold a debate on user protection and security in cyberspace as well as the right to Internet access.

(*) The Assembly will decide its final agenda on the opening day of the session.
