PACE Bureau strongly condemns violence in Syria, expresses support for Arab League plan

PACE Bureau, meeting in Edinburgh today, is deeply concerned about and strongly condemns the continuing systematic use of violence by the Syrian authorities against their own people, resulting in thousands of deaths, including children. The Bureau urges the Syrian authorities immediately to stop the bloodshed and put an end to all human rights violations and abuses. The authorities in Damascus must instead create the conditions for the peaceful expression of the democratic aspirations of their people. More

Climate change: declaration by the PACE Bureau looking ahead to the Durban Conference

The PACE Bureau called today, in a declaration, for a decision at the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (Durban, 29 November-9 December 2011) to stop the clock ticking towards the end of the expiry of the Kyoto Protocol in order to allow negotiations for a successor regime to continue if necessary beyond that date. Committee on Assembly reform to be established

On 8 October, the PACE Bureau approved the composition of an Ad hoc Committee on Assembly reform which it had decided to establish, in line with the recommendation made by the Presidential Committee at its meeting in Rome on 7 September. The Bureau nominated Jean-Claude Mignon (France, EPP/CD) as Chairperson of this ad hoc committee, which will include members of all political groups. More
