BIO
Dr. Alex Koetzle has been working, teaching and volunteering in the field of newborn critical care for nearly 30 years. He completed his Pediatric Residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital and received his fellowship in Neonatology at the New York Hospital, Cornell Medical Center in New York. He is an active staff member in Neonatology in five local hospitals, including Baptist Children’s Hospital, Mercy Hospital and Miami Children’s Hospital, which is renowned for pediatric medicine. His areas of research include new early feeding protocol and aggressive weaning off ventilator support for pre-term babies, and he has been on Hispanic radio and TV talk shows as an expert guest speaker on newborn delivery.
Dr. Koetzle has treated more than 25,000 infants both full-term and pre-term with a wide range of medical conditions. As a result of his superior care, he has been secured by Baptist Children’s Hospital and Miami Children’s Hospital to teach medical residents, nurses and students the standards in neonatal care for more than 20 years. An expert in international relations in the medical community, he serves as Ambassador/Global International Services for Miami Children’s Hospital and as International Liaison for Media, Foreign Business and Diplomats for Baptist Hospital’s International Department. As such Dr. Koetzle has cultivated many relationships with other chief neonatal practitioners and has access to many.
Outreach has always been an integral part of his work. His efforts are guided by two goals: to respond to the needs of the community and to improve children’s access to healthcare. In 2010, Dr. Koetzle flew to Haiti to help the children and mothers who were victims of the 7.0 earthquake. Inspired by his experience, he is involved in a private organization to continue his efforts.
